In the Summer Term 1, Year 1 were learning about Countries and we went on an exciting trip to Whipsnade Zoo, to link with our science topic on animals. We also learnt about countries in our geography lessons when we learnt about oceans and continents. We know that there are 4 countries which make up the UK.
In our art lessons, we have planned and will make sculptures of famous London landmarks.
In Summer 2, we are now learning about London. We are learning about the Royal family, with the Prince and new Princess Charlotte. We are learning about London landmarks and modes of transport used in London. We are going on trip to the O2 arena and taking the Emirates Sky Line across the river to get a panoramic view of London and the landmarks.
We have been working with sports coaches in our PE lessons and learning lots of different skills. See our sports day photos in the PE gallery.
Currently in history we are looking at seaside and holidays; and how the way in which we travel has changed. Please discuss any forthcoming holidays with your children and discuss how you plan to travel there and why.
In science, we are learning about materials.
In preparation for the phonics screening test, we have had focus sounds for each week. The actual testing will take place by the class teacher and individual children during the week of the 15th June.
Please help your children to learn the phase 3 and 5 sounds by practising with them every day.
This term in Year 1 our Literacy topic is traditional tales and we will later learn about fantasy.
In maths we are learning to read and write our numbers to 100. We are also learning the days of the week.
Our topic this term in Science is Plants and we will be looking at some of the plants we have in and around the school.
Our topic in RE is Islam and we will be learning about growing up in a Muslim family.
