Eldon Primary School

Aspiration, Determination, Success

In Nursery the teachers are:

Mrs K Delpeche in Limes

Mrs A Kakoulli and Mrs Mitchell in Oaks

In Nursery classes we enjoy learning and playing together. We follow the Early Years curriculum.

Each half term we have a ‘theme’ in which the learning is focused around:

Autumn 1 – Nursery Rhymes

Autumn 2 – Once Upon a Time

Spring 1 – Amazing Animals

Spring 2 – Wonderful World

Summer 1 – Growing

Summer 2 – Water Water Water

Welcome back to all our children and families who attended Eldon previously and a warm welcome to those joining us this term.  It is so lovely to see you all back after the summer break.

All the Nursery children have settled in and enjoying carpet time and getting used to their daily routine.

They have been learning Nursery rhymes, Hickory Dickory Dock and Incy Wincy Spider to name but a few.

Spring 1

In Nursery this term our topic has been Amazing Animals.  The children have been listening to the stories of Farmer Duck, Dear Zoo and The Rainbow Fish.  The children have enjoyed engaging in a variety of activities linked to the animals in the story.  Some of the activities included encouraging the children to use junk modelling to make animals from the story Farmer Duck.  The children enjoyed using animals in the class to dip their feet into paint and make different shaped prints onto paper.  The children have also loved cutting and designing their very own rainbow fish.

We were very excited to hold our very first Coffee Morning and Afternoon for our nursery parents.  It was a great turn out and was so lovely to have the opportunity to chat about how your children are getting on at school.  We shared lots of information on toilet training which we hope will support our families at home and at school.  Our parents who attended also filled out questionnaire which will support us in organising our next get together.

Autumn Term

This term our topic is ‘Once upon a time’ in nursery. We have been reading different traditional tales and learning the character names and retelling the story using props.

We have read Goldilocks and the Three Bears and looked at capacity in Maths filling up bowls with porridge.

We made some of our very own bears and used tissue paper to decorate them. We have read the Three Billy Goats Gruff and designed our own bridges.  We have just finished the Gingerbread Man and made some of our own biscuits and decorated them with icing!

To finish off the term we are now making fun Christmas ornaments and biscuits for our children to enjoy over the holidays. Next term we are learning all about amazing animals.

Over the past 7 weeks, the children have explored and progressed through many different areas of learning. For our Art sessions, we have been looking at how paint can be mixed to form a different colour.

As we are truly in the thick of autumn, it was only right to go on our annual autumn walk! We identified what type of things we would expect to see outside which tells us that autumn has arrived. We searched for: orange leaves, brown leaves, conkers, squirrels, pine cones and bare trees.

Our PE sessions have been OUTSTANDING! The children have been focussing on: running, jumping, swinging our arms and jumping high and of course some movements and holds any professional Gymnast would be proud of.
