Dear Parents/ Carers,
Online safety is an important part of keeping children safe at Eldon.
All of our pupils are taught how to stay safe and behave appropriately online, but this approach is only successful if we work together and reinforce safe behaviour at home too.
It is important that during this period of remote learning we maintain a safe and responsible use of technology, so we feel that this is an appropriate time to highlight some simple online safety tips to help parents/ carers engage with and support their children online.
Be Internet Legends is a multifaceted programme developed by Google in partnership with Parent Zone designed to teach your child the skills they need to stay safe and have a positive time online.
I have attached the family activity booklet which includes four activities based around the Internet Legends code and links to Interland, an online adventure that teaches the key lessons of internet safety through four fun, challenging games.
Your involvement at home with these activities can really help your child to develop the necessary skills and reinforce the key messages to help them become safer and more confident when exploring the online world.
This half term the children will be exploring Data Handling. They will be collecting Data/Information and then will make a graph using the information they have collected. They will be thinking about how they come to school, what their favourite fruit is and they will be answering questions about a pet show. They will be questioned about the data on their graph e.g most/least used mode of transport for coming to school, most/least popular fruit and number of different animals at the pet show. They will be asked how many more/less (What is the difference between) one thing and another.
This half term the children will continue to learn about internet safety. They will be asked to question if EVERYTHING on the Internet is true and will be shown examples of this. They will make an Internet Safety Booklet to take home.
They will then move on to Data Handling and will be collecting different forms of Data/Information and they will use that information to make various types of graph. They will look at ways of collecting data e.g tally charts. They will be asked how many more/less (What is the difference between) one thing and another. They will learn that the Data/Information that is collected has to be entered accurately when making a graph.
