Rising Stars is all about learning and building skills in the English language. Children who attend Rising Stars, are either new to the English language or require extra help in getting their ideas correctly down on paper in English. Children attend Rising Stars during their English lessons (five times for the week).
In Key Stage Two, the focus changes towards sentence structure and using newly acquired English vocabulary in written work. There are many steps leading this.
In Years 5 and 6, a roundabout of activities is organised; geared towards the topic area and the group’s need. On Blue table, children play a game called Silly sentences. They take turns identifying word classes and read their ‘silly sentence aloud to each other. On the carpet, children play iPad phonics and word recognition games linked to the current topic (The Gruffalo, in Year 5). On Yellow table, Miss Smith conferences children on the last piece of work in their purple books. On Green table, children build their reading comprehension skills with various interactive, Gruffalo themed books. On Purple table, Miss Walters conferences the children on the work in SPaG (produced in their red books).
