Every year two children from each class are elected to the school council. They work together across the year group to decide on important issues. This year the school council have voted and debated on the new lunch hall, our new school lunch menu, healthy eating, the Queen’s birthday celebrations and fundraising for the school. All of the Reception children stand and present their class’ ideas on their behalf, to the whole of the Infant school council. This is a very important job and they have taken on the responsibility very well – perhaps we have some future councillors in the making!
This week we are looking forward to starting Year 1, and meeting our new teachers. We have been decorating ‘chatterboxes’ to fill with information all about us, to send to our new teachers, writing them letters and making them things. We are planning to have a teddy bear’s picnic, where we will get together with our parents and carers, new teachers and our existing teachers and nursery children. We can’t wait!
We had some visitors who came to talk to us about road safety. We learned about how to cross the road safely, how to stay visible and who can help us cross the road. We talked about how to stay safe when we are out and about.
Red class have been thinking about looking after the school environment. They went on an environmental walk, looking for litter, and then took all the recycling to the recycling bins.
We have been taking more care of our environment. This child is cleaning the windows of the classroom.
