Christmas Play

Gold to Bethlehem Song Words

Three Kings

I hear the sound of marching feet

Drum on the desert sands

Three weary kings come riding by

Far from their native lands

I wonder where they come from

I wonder who they are

I wonder what they’re looking for

Under the rising star

Three kings, riding from the desert

Right here, into our town

Three kings, isn’t it amazing?

Now what do you think of that!

We’ve never seen a king before

Now we can welcome three

With golden crowns and flowing gowns

Come everyone and see

I wonder where they come from

I wonder who they are

I wonder what they’re looking for

Under the rising star

Three kings, riding from the desert

Right here, into our town

Three kings, isn’t it amazing?

Now what do you think of that!

(Shouted)    One! Two! Three kings!

                   One! Two! Three kings!

                   One! Two! Three kings!

Solo:           How many kings?

All:              Three!

Three kings, riding from the desert

Right here, into our town

Three kings, isn’t it amazing?

Now what do you think of that?

Yeah,

What do you think of that!

This Must Be Gold

Kezia:  This must be gold

I’ve just heard of it

Take folks’ word for it

But what’s it for?

Can’t feed the flocks with it

Can’t scare a fox with it

No good to me, that’s sure

Sheep/All:  Chuck the load of useless metal out

Worthless, pointless, yellow, cold

Wouldn’t mend a broken kettle spout

Can’t make saucepans, cattle grids, toboggan skids or dustbin lids, but

They’ve left their gold

And gone their faraway, star-away road untold.

All:  This must be gold

Men will kill for it,

Sell their soul for it

But what’s it for?

Can’t mend a wheel with it

Can’t cook a meal with it

No good to us, that’s sure

Kezia:  When they find the baby, sorrow then

Got no gold to offer him

With the star I’ll follow, follow them

Over sandy desert spaces, mountain tops and far-off places

I’ll bring their gold

And take their faraway, star-away road untold.

Lock her in the Dungeon

Lock her in the dungeon

Lock her in the dungeon

Throw her where she’ll never see again the light of day

Chain her in the darkest cell

Chain her up and guard her well

Lock the door for evermore and let her rot away

We will show no mercy, a spy and traitor she

Lock her in the dungeon and throw away the key!

Choose the darkest dungeon,

One with slimy gunge in

Where the only sound is water dripping on the floor

Fungus growing on the wall

Nasty things that creep and crawl

Nothing there to lie on but a pile of rotting straw

Meals of bread and water

And rats for company

Lock her in the dungeon

Lock her in the dungeon

Down, down, down, down, down in the dungeon

Lock her in the dungeon

Lock her in the dungeon

Lock her in the dungeon and throw away the key!

Procrastination

Come on everybody, and make every second count!

Solo:  Who wants to stay behind?

All:  Don’t want to stay behind

Shepherds’ Song

Midnight’s the time for a shepherds’ party,

Up on the hillside clear and cold,

Fresh air will keep you feeling hale and hearty

Live with nature and you won’t grow old

We’re not bothered by frost or freeze-up,

That’s no worry to us or sheep

Now’s the moment for a right old knees-up,

Everybody else is fast asleep!

Living in town isn’t over easy

Hustle and bustle, and traffic roars

Here in the country-side we’re bright and breezy,

Fit and happy in the great outdoors

Keep on dancing until we seize up

For us shepherds, the fun comes cheap

Now’s the moment for a right old knees-up,

Everybody else is fast asleep!

Deo Gloria

Deo, Deo Gloria

There’s no time for hanging around

Deo, Deo Gloria

Off to Bethlehem Town

In a manger lies our saviour

Deep in slumber

He’s bringing joy to all of mankind

Holy treasure, adored beyond measure

So shepherds, pick up your things

Follow the kings

Take the Bethlehem way

Deo, Deo Gloria

There’s no time for hanging around

Deo, Deo Gloria

Off to Bethlehem Town

Find the baby, call him holy

Mother Mary is waiting there to wecome you in

Till you go there, you know you’ll go nowhere

So shepherds

No more delay

Be on your way

Singing for Christmas Day!

Deo, Deo Gloria

There’s no time for hanging around

Deo, Deo Gloria

Off to Bethlehem

Off to Bethlehem

Off to Bethlehem

Hang On A Moment

Kings 1 and 2:  We come from kingdoms far away

Our saviour to behold

We offer him our gifts of myrrh

And frankincense and …

King 3:  Hang on a moment

Be with you in a minute

I thought it was in this one

But there’s nothing in it

I’m really so sorry

To cause this slight delay

I’ll have it any second

It can’t be far away

Kings 1 and 2:  We come to greet the son of God

That all the stars foretold

We bring him gifts of precious myrrh

And frankincense and …

King 3:  Not in the pocket

Of anything I’m wearing

I’ve checked in all my luggage

And now I am despairing

It’s no use, can’t find it

I’ve gone through all my stuff

So go ahead without me

You’ve waited long enough

Kings 1 and 2:  You’ve lost it?  Good gracious!

I really don’t believe it

How often have we told you

Be careful where you leave it

You’re hopeless, you’re scatty,

Not fit to be a king

You’ve made us all look foolish

You’ve ruined everything

King 1 [optional]:  What a nightmare, I’m so sorry

Kings 1 and 2:  You’ve ruined everything!

King 1 [optional]:  I’m such an idiot!

Kings 1 and 2:  You’ve ruined everything!

I’ve Brought Your Gold

Kezia:  I’ve brought your gold

Knew you needed it

Made all your speed with it

From land afar

Carried it cheerfully

Led by the distant star

All:  With her sheep beside her all the way

Steadfastly she travelled on

Leading them with courage, night and day

As they fled from angry strangers, mortal dangers, to the manger

They’ve brought your gold

A long long wearisome way

Seeking the baby King, coming to worship Him

Bearing the gift of gold, they’ve

Hurried to Bethlehem,

Hurried to Bethlehem

Kezia has brought your gold!

Deo Gloria Reprise

Deo, Deo Gloria

Bring your gifts and gather around

Deo, Deo Gloria

Here in Bethlehem town.

Happy people, in the stable

Feeling joyful

We want to spread the wonderful news

Here in glory, the end of our story

So come one, lift up your voice,

Welcome, rejoice

Singing for Christmas Day

Deo, Deo Gloria

Bring your gifts and father around

Deo, Deo Gloria

Here in Bethlehem, here in Bethlehem,

Here in Bethlehem town!.
